The story of Abel
Abel was not the most popular student in his school. He was not the best athlete, the smartest person in his class, or the loudest voice in the room. But there was something different about him. People noticed the way he treated others.
Every morning before school, Abel prayed, "Lord, help me show your love today. Let my actions speak for you."
One day, Abel's teacher announced a group project. The students quickly formed groups, but one student named Marcus was left behind. Marcus was known for causing trouble, and many classmates avoided him.
"Do we really have to work with him?" one student whispered.
Abel looked at Marcus sitting alone and said, "Everyone deserves a chance. Let's work together."
During the project, Marcus made several mistakes. Some students became frustrated and wanted to criticize him, but Abel patiently helped him understand what to do. Instead of making Marcus feel ashamed, Abel encouraged him.
A few days later, another student found answers to a test online and suggested that everyone use them.
"No one will know," the student said. "Everyone does it."
Abel shook his head. "It may be easy, but it isn't right. I want to do my best honestly."
Some students laughed at him, but Abel stayed faithful to his decision.
Over time, people began noticing something about Abel. His actions matched his words. He was kind when others were unkind. He was honest when others chose shortcuts. He spoke of encouragement when others spread gossip.
One day, Marcus approached him after class.
"Abel, can I ask you something?" Marcus said. "Why do you act differently from everyone else?"
Abel smiled. "Because Jesus has changed my life. I want people to see Him through the way I live."
Marcus thought about those words. He realized that Abel had never preached a long sermon to him, but Abel's life had shown him something powerful.
Months later, Marcus began attending church with Abel. He started making better choices and became an encouragement to others.
Abel learned that being an example does not require a position, a title, or a crowd watching. It only requires a heart willing to honor God every day.
The words of Titus 2:7–8 came alive in his life:
"In everything, set them an example by doing what is good, showing integrity and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned."
Abel discovered that a life lived for Christ can become a message that others can see.
Reflection:
People may forget many things we say, but they often remember how we made them feel and the example we showed them. Our everyday choices can point others toward Jesus, or draw their attention away from Him
Below are some scriptures that outline some areas where our daily lives should serve as a model to others.
·1 Timothy 4:12: "Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity."
·Matthew 5:16: "In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
·1 Peter 2:12: "Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits."
